ARE TX LEGISLATORS VACATIONING ON OUR DIME???

TEXAS LEGISLATURE ADJOURN VACATION

We've been hearing a lot about TX Legislative Adjournments ["VACATION" ]. We did some research and provided it below in a graphic. The Texas Constitution requires that any time an adjournment for more than 3 days is requested by one Body (House or Senate) the other Body must concur for the adjournment to be approved. There have been 6 such requests made, with 5 being initiated by the Senate. Several things should be noted:

  • The Body that agrees to the request does not necessarily adjourn as well,

  • Very Important business still continues: Bill drafting and filing is the priority in the first 60 days because no bills can be filed after March 14. Then these bills are heard in the next 45 days by each Committee. Floor sessions cannot undertake substantive business in the House until a bill has been filed, heard in Committee, and set on a calendar by the Calendars Committee. **Adjourning a floor session does NOT halt the committee work or bill filing.**

About the Montgomery County Republican Club

The Montgomery County Republican Club is an independent political action committee focused on engaging the Republican community within Montgomery County with educational opportunities and current research. Since our existence in 2020, we have never endorsed one Republican over another and, instead, present fair and accurate information on Republican candidates so that voters can make an informed decision. We often host Town Halls with elected officials, Get Out the Vote Rallies, & Republican Candidate Forums. We also research candidates’ stances on issues & party affiliation in non-partisan races.
